The Hollywood Commission approved the employment contract with Dr. Wazir Ishmael, the city manager, during a recent meeting. Ishmael will earn a base salary of $189,500 per year. The previous city manager’s contract was approved in 2012 for $172,000 a year for Cathy Swanson-Rivenbark.

He can leave his position without cause by giving 45 days notice and the City can terminate without cause by paying 20 week’s severance unless he is convicted of a felony or a crime involving moral turpitude. The Commission had unanimously agreed to hire Ishmael as city manager.

Also, the Commission approved environmental engineering firms to study the City-owned property at 1600 South Park Road.

The entire site is 32 acres but the studies will focus on 22 acres in the north and central portions of the site. The studies will look at the environmental impact of the former landfill. They will also perform a cost analysis and determine what it will cost to prepare the land for three different kinds of potential development: residential, commercial and industrial.
