2018/2019 school year set to begin midweek 6 days earlier; day off on Nov. 6 election day

Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) students will start the 2018/19 school year on Wednesday, August 15, 2018. The new school year will begin earlier than usual, and start midweek – a change from the District’s traditional Monday start day.

The School Board of Broward County approved the 2018/19 school year calendar at its December 5, 2017, meeting, citing a midweek start an option that allows days for teachers and students to settle and organize.

Highlights of the 2018/19 school year calendar include:
• Election Day: Tuesday, November 6, 2018; No school for students – Teacher Planning Day
• Thanksgiving Break: Wednesday, November 21 – Friday, November 23, 2018
• Winter Break: Monday, December 24, 2018 – Friday, January 4, 2019; and
• Spring Break: Monday, March 25 – Friday, March 29, 2019
• Last Day of School: Tuesday, June 4, 2019

The approved calendar also includes 10 teacher planning days, six early release days, and days designated for interim report cards, report cards, holidays and contingencies for up to five hurricane make-up days, if needed.
