West Lake Tower Saga Continues

The City of Hollywood held a special meeting today to determine what course of action to take following a revelation that Broward County wants to give about three acres of land to Tamarac so a tower can legally be built on the land at West Lake Park.

Under Broward County’s own regulations, the land at West Lake can only be used for recreation and park activities. So the County is looking into buying some land in Davie and then giving that land to Tamarac, a city in northern Broward.

It appears that Tamarac will then trade the land in Davie for the West Lake land. Then Tamarac will lease this land to Broward County for about $62,000 and the tower will be placed on this land.

The City of Hollywood is not pleased with this proposal and leaders want to know why they were not consulted.

Broward Mayor Mark Bogen attended the special meeting and said that he would be willing to go to the Broward Commission and try to get the Commission to agree to have the antennas placed on the CIRC tower which is what members of the Hollywood Commission have wanted all along.

Members of the Hollywood Commission were not pleased that more research was not conducted on the cost of installing the tower at the CIRC versus West Lake.

There’s now a possibility that Hollywood will sue Broward County for violation of the interlocal agreement.
