FORT LAUDERDALE INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL TO BRING FILM PREMIERES AND CELEBRITIES TO CINEMA PARADISO HOLLYWOOD

When the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival (FLIFF) returns to South Florida for its 34th year November 1-17 with, an exciting line-up of American Independent, Foreign Language and Florida film premieres, you won’t have to go far to see it! Although films will screen at a variety of venues throughout Broward County, the primary theaters are Savor Cinema in Fort Lauderdale and our very own Cinema Paradiso in downtown Hollywood.  Moviegoers will have the opportunity to engage in conversation with celebrities and filmmakers prior to films or during post screening Q&A’s at both locations.

Below is a sample of some of the films to be screened, and some of the talent slated to attend:

Award-winning actresses Karen Allen and Talia Shire will return to FLIFF this year with the Southeast Premieres of films that have similar themes.  In Colewell, directed by Tom Quinn (also attending), Allen portrays a woman who is faced with sudden retirement when the Post Office where she works closes. In Working Man, directed by Robert Jury, Shire portrays a wife whose husband (Peter Gerety) must deal with the loss of his job after the factory where he works closes down.  Robert Jury will attend the screenings with Shire.

Swedish Director Robert Andersson will be in town for the U.S. Premiere screenings of The Duckpond, a comedy about the unintentional change that is impossible to foresee and which can change one’s life in the blink of an eye.   

Camille Chamoux, star of the French comedy Our Happy Holiday, who co-wrote the film with her director and husband Patrick Cassir, will both attend the U.S. Premiere screenings.

Venezuelan director Luis Hueck will be at the U.S. Premiere screenings of his comedy, Papita 2cond Base, a sequel to Papita, Maní, Tostón, starring Juliette Pardau and Jean Pierre Agostini. 

Director Daniel Schechter and actor Justin Long will attend the Southeast Premiere of their bittersweet comedy, Safe Spaces.

Rene Auberjonois, star of film, stage and TV, and director Amanda Melby, will attend the Florida Premiere of the comedy Raising Buchanan.

Director Sean Cisterna and actor, Joe Pantoliano (Risky Business, The Matrix, Midnight Run) will introduce the premiere of From the Vine. The comedy is set against the backdrop of Italy’s wine country and stars Marco Leonardi (Cinema Paradiso, Like Water for Chocolate).    

William Grefe, a Florida writer, producer, director of over 50 years, achieved acclaimed world-wide status for his films including: Mako: The Jaws of Death (1976), Live and Let Die (1973), The Naked Zoo (1970), and Cease Fire (1985) which will be screened as a tribute to Grefe who will attend. Cease fire stars Don Johnson, Lisa Blount and Chris Noel in a post-Vietnam War drama. 

Cinema Paradiso-Hollywood will kick-off the festival on Friday, November 1st with three films; Chasing The Jet Stream follows artist, entrepreneur and professional Swiss skydiver Mark Hauser’s bid to jump where no man has jumped before; the Southeast Premiere of  La Bolduc, a biopic of Quebec’s folk singer Mary Travers Bolduc’s life and her dazzling career in the ‘20s and ‘30s directed by Francois Bouvier and starring Debbie Lynch-White; and Director Jonathan Blank will attend his documentary, Sex Drugs and Bicycles, which takes a look at Dutch social democracy and answers the question: Is having month-long double paid vacations, no fear of homelessness and universal healthcare the nightmare we’ve been warned about?
