Hollywood’s closest neighbor, Pembroke Pines, will become the mecca of art, food, music and fun on March 10 and 11 when the 20th Annual ArtFest in the Pines opens this year in an all-new location at the City of Pembroke Pines Charles F. Dodge City Center, 601 City Center Way. The Center is located off Pines Blvd. between Hiatus and Palm.

If you love art, food, fun, and music — and who in Hollywood doesn’t love most of those things? — the biggest party in Pembroke Pines will absolutely thrill you.

Open both days from 10 am to 5 pm and free to the public, the 20th edition of ArtFest in the Pines, produced this year in partnership with ArtServe, will be packed with talented artists, fun-filled entertainment, and specialty trucks featuring all types of tasty foods. Festival-goers will also enjoy live hands-on art demonstrations, a delectable farmer’s market, a student art competition, a kids’ art and game zone, free art workshops for kids of all ages at The Frank Art Gallery, and so much more.

“ArtFest in the Pines is a free, family-friendly cultural event featuring fine arts, great entertainment, and a free crafts tent where children can create their own masterpieces!” said Holly Bonkowski, Division Director of Cultural Arts for the City of Pembroke Pines. “This event is always well attended by art lovers who enjoy viewing and purchasing original artwork. This year, though, for our 20th anniversary year, we have really amped it up to celebrate the growth in the program and to showcase our beautiful new City Center, Frank Art Gallery, and Main Hall Theatre.”

ArtFest in the Pines’  juried exhibition will show the best of South Florida’s fine artisans and craftspeople, working in an array of unique mediums such as Drawing, Jewelry, Mixed Media, Digital Art, Painting, Fine Handcrafts, Photography, Wood, Glass and Three-Dimensional Sculpture. Prize money for winning artists totals $4,500 with the “BEST IN SHOW” winner taking home $1,000!

ArtFest in the Pines will also offer the best in South Florida live music. Hosted by an inimitable dynamic duo — Josh the Man (aka Mr. Handle It) and the incredible DJ Diesel — the main stage promises something for everyone, highlighted by the addition of powerful South Florida native Karina Iglesias fresh from her appearance on the national singing contest, “The Voice.” Her awe-inspiring performance and stage presence will bring chills to the audience at ArtFest in the Pines.

Additionally, the voice of international recording artist and social entrepreneur Alexander Star will be gracing the stage with a complement of original songs and contemporary Top 40 standards.  And there will be even more amazing musical acts, including the soulful voice and commanding stage presence of Emily Sheila, who has been described in the Miami Herald as a “mix between Fiona Apple and Adele with a folky twist,” and an engaging and eye-popping performance of reggae music by Inna Sense.

Another exciting new feature of the Festival in the Pines this year is the alliance with ArtServe, the area’s premier arts service organization. “We are thrilled to be working with the award-winning non-profit ArtServe,” added Bonkowski. “The partnership allows us to help reach even deeper into the local arts community to highlight the tremendous talent we have here in South Florida.”

“From an artist, entertainment and interactive perspective, the quality and variety of offerings at this event are among the best available in the tri-county area,” added Ed King, Director of Media Relations at ArtServe. “We are proud to be working with the City of Pembroke Pines and delighted to offer the talented artists in our community great opportunities like this. Programs like this go to the very core of our non-profit mission.”

Artserve, the multi-purpose Broward County Arts facility which provides low-cost space where artists, non-profits and the public can hold classes, workshops, performances, meetings and events, and conduct business, has become a national model for other arts incubators and artist-support groups.

Tagged as “the biggest party in Pembroke Pines, this year’s festival has something for everyone and is not to be missed.
