In celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day, Free Our Seas and Beyond is hosting the third annual Free Our Seas Art Festival & Earth Day Celebration.
The art festival and celebration will be held at the Marine Environmental Education Center at the Historic Carpenter House, 4414 N Surf Road, on Hollywood Beach on Saturday, April 25th from 11am to 4pm.
More than 4,000 people of all ages attended last year’s festival and connected with the environment through art and stewardship. During the event over 400 volunteers collected 1,000 pounds of trash at the beach clean-up.
This year, festivities kick off with a morning meditation on Hollywood Beach at 8:30 a.m., hosted by Shelly Tygielski. The Beach Clean-Up, sponsored by Surfrider Foundation, Broward County and Sun of a Beach, runs from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m.
The Art Festival is from 11am to 4pm, with original works of art on display for all to enjoy by muralists Rei Ramirez, James Brutus and Carlos Solano; Sand Sculptor John May; Free Our Seas artists Kurt Wiese; and TC Trash Art.
The free, family-friendly event also includes live musical performances, food trucks, children’s activities, artisan market, environmentally focused exhibitors , a community art installation and more.
While there, be sure to meet “Captain” the rescued Green Sea Turtle for her lunchtime feeding!
Free parking is available at Anne Kolb Nature Center with shuttle service sponsored by Wild Lime Adventures.
“The vibe from the people in attendance was kind and inspiring,” says visitor Teresa Leonardo. “It gave me an opportunity to spend quality time with my son and teach him the importance of our environment and doing things to create positive change.”
The Free Our Seas Art Festival and Earth Day Celebration is presented by Nova Southeastern University, Broward County, the Marine Environmental Education Center (MEEC) at the Carpenter House, the City of Hollywood, Divers Direct, Yachtronics, Resolve Marine & Mission Resolve, Marine Waste Management, LB Construction of South Florida, The Extra Catch and Wild Lime Adventures.
