Hollywood residents and visitors frustrated with finding parking near the beach will soon have a new 316 space parking garage located at 327 Nebraska Street. The garage will be located on more than half an acre of land that was once the site of a fire station. It will be seven stories tall and will be built in a contemporary style with retail shops on the ground floor. During a recent meeting, the Hollywood Commission approved a special exception, variances, design and the site plan for the garage estimated to cost about $7 million to build.
During the meeting, Jorge Camejo, executive CRA director said he believes this garage is sorely needed to provide much needed parking for people who want to go to the beach.
Commissioner Patricia Asseff asserted, “We need more parking on the beach and we need this parking garage.”
Commissioner Kevin Biederman agreed on the need for the additional parking lot and said it was good not just for people who live near the beach but for all residents.
Some residents spoke against the new parking garage because they believed it would attract too many drivers to an already congested area. They expressed concern that there are too many cars in eastern Hollywood.
The new garage is expected to open in May 2017.
