GG’s donates $1,000 to the Fight Against Alzheimer’s

Dan and Lise-Anne Serafini, owners of GG’s Waterfront Bar & Grill in Hollywood, know first-hand how Alzheimer’s Disease affects not only the patient but their families as well. Dan can remember watching his father Elio Serafini suffer from this terrible disease, which eventually took his life.

Jillian Pickett and her mother, Dinah, also see it every day.  They own Home Instead Senior Care, based in Hollywood.  The company helps people with Alzheimer’s who want to stay in their homes.

“Today, we are caring for men and women as young as 65 who are living in their homes and need one-on-one care due to Alzheimer’s Disease,” explained Jillian.  ” We serve clients that need support with activities that each of us do daily like preparing meals and getting dressed. ”

Together, they joined the struggle against Alzheimer’s four years ago when Dan and Lise-Anne joined the Home Instead Team in the Walk to End Alzheimers,  and organized an event where they donated a portion of a day’s proceeds to the fight, with a promise that it would be no less than $1000.  Last year, recounted Jillian, one customer also gave $1,000, so the total GG’s donation was $2,000.  The walk is administered by the Southeast Florida Alzheimer’s Association, the south Florida arm of The Alzheimer’s Association, the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer’s care, support and research. Jillian, the executive director of Home Instead,Senior Care,  was on hand to present the check to Joel Robinson, development manager for the Alzheimer’s Association.

“Helping in the fight against Alzheimer’s is dear to my heart. I want to help find a cure for the disease because so many people suffer from it,” said Dan.

Added Jillian, “Working with clients that have ALZ is challenging but our professionally trained and compassionate employees work with them one on one to create the best outcomes for health and safety while sometimes creating great friendships too!”
