They walk alike, they talk alike — and they do even look a lot alike! But Sisters Karen & Mary DeNunzio, long an integral part of the Hollywood community, active members of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and Leadership Hollywood Alumni, each bring their different skills to the table in their design firm, DeNunzio Interior Design, which they have recently rebranded and relaunched through a collaboration with another Chamber member and Leadership Hollywood graduate company, the Pink Collective.
The Westchester County, New York native sisters have always been close but only in the last few years have been working together. They moved to Florida in 1967 and Mary subsequently moved to Western Michigan where she has been a home design professional for over 20 years, while Karen’s design focus was more on clothing and accessories. An early adapter, she was one of the original business owners in Wynwood with her Look Within Collection of custom designed yoga bags and clothing.
Karen closed her business in 2011, which happily coincided with the arrival of her sister in Hollywood. The two, now with over 35 years of collective professional design experience between them, decided to join forces and opened a southern division of the Michigan firm, Details & Design, in 2012.
As times change, so did the sisters’ collaboration. Now with an updated specialization on redesign of properties such as boutique resorts and restaurants in addition to residential designs, they turned to Hollywood “story-telling agency” the Pink Collective to help them tell their story.
“We offer personalized client discovery consulting, uniquely inspired life-style space planning and transformational designs that communicate personal style & comfort,” said Karen. Added Mary, “Our goal is to be the design firm of choice for the transformation of Hollywood’s downtown and beachside projects.“
Among the company’s most recent Hollywood projects are:
- a mid-century modern residence residential kitchen and bath remodel and redesign and staging of living quarters
- the May Dee Suites in Central Hollywood, where they transformed an outdated Hollywood motel into an updated boutique design, including planning, design, décor, landscaping and branding
- the Manta Ray Inn, a well-established Hollywood Beach motel. They started by revamping all the guest rooms to create a bright, fresh coastal feel congruent with a beachfront property. This is an ongoing project with plans to redesign the exterior areas, guest entry, and office area as well.
Many of these projects are shown on the company website. www.DenunzioInteriorDesign.com
“We value the sensibilities of the old with a mindset of adding the comfort and functionality of the new,” say the sisters, as they bring their “old” design experience into their “new” company.
