The Memorial Foundation has announced that Babette Ferre-Kosar has been named director of development for the Memorial Cancer Institute. She brings more than 25 years fundraising experience and knowledge of the latest cancer trends and treatments to the position.

Prior to joining Memorial Healthcare System, Ferre-Kosar was executive director of the I Care I Cure Childhood Cancer Foundation, working to raise awareness and funds for targeted and less toxic cures and treatments for pediatric cancer. The Cooper City resident has also been an active volunteer and supporter of the Memorial and Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Foundations, serving as a board member, and founded the Diamond Angels, a volunteer organization that has raised millions of dollars for Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital.

“It’s important that we make a difference in the lives of individuals battling cancer by raising funds to ensure the community has the best cancer treatments in its own backyard,” said Ferre-Kosar. “As a Florida native, I’ve been privileged to watch Memorial’s growth and development as a leader in healthcare industry and I’m thrilled to now contribute to that in my new role.”

The Memorial Cancer Institute is one of the largest cancer centers in Florida, treating more than 4,300 new patients a year.

Ferre-Kosar also spent three years of her professional career as development director of Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies of Broward County and has served on various charity and community boards. She was a Guardian Ad Litem in the Dependency Court System and received considerable recognition for her volunteer efforts, including the Valor Award, Champion for Children’s Award, Woman of the Year, Mother of the Year, Outstanding Woman of Broward County, and Woman of Style and Substance.

The Memorial Foundation raises funds philanthropically to assist patients, families, and to underwrite the cost of programs, facilities, and equipment within the Memorial Healthcare System (www.mhs.net), where no one is ever denied care because of an inability to pay.
