BCPS to Debut #BrowardCODES, District-Wide Computer Science Fair in May

Let’s hear it once again for the Broward County Public Schools (BCPS), which is a national model for How To Do It for computer science in schools. Through the District’s #BrowardCodes initiative, in 2017/18 more than 50,000 students have been positively impacted by computer science offerings at 100 percent of BCPS K-12 schools.

This year, the district, with the support of the 42nd class of Leadership Hollywood, is hosting the First Annual District-Wide Computer Science Fair, called #BrowardCODES, scheduled to debut on May 19 at the Sheridan Technical College and High School right here in Hollywood.  #BrowardCODES is designed to continue the growth of The BCPS computer science initiative, which is now an example for school systems across America for its focus on expanding computer science opportunities for students and professional development for teachers.

“We see #BrowardCODES as a great opportunity for students to celebrate their knowledge, showcase their work, connect with and inspire each other and meet with local tech industry and computer science university and college representatives,” said Toni M. Soldano, Director of Enrollment at Union Institute & University and chairperson of the #BrowardCODES committee.  “This event is for Broward County Public School (BCPS) Computer Science (CS) students to show off what they have created in class (apps, web pages, Scratch and Play Lab projects, Robotics, physical computing, and more. Think of it like a traditional science fair, but for Computer Science!

#BrowardCODES is scheduled for the morning of Saturday, May 19, from 9 am till noon at the Sheridan Technical College Student Union, 5400 Sheridan St., Hollywood, 33021.  For more information, go http://stembrowardschools.com/ or email browardstem@browardschools.com.  You may also email Soldano at toni.soldano@myunion.edu
