Beachside Montessori Village earns 2016 Green Ribbon School Award

Beachside Montessori Village recently earned the 2016 Green Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. Beachside is the only school in Florida to earn the award this year, one of only 47 schools and 15 districts in the nation to be chosen.

The Green Ribbon award recognizes efforts to reduce environmental impact, promote better health and ensure effective environmental education. Recently, Principal Vered Roberts along with teachers Kim Rich, Elaine Fiore and Wendy Watson traveled to Washington D.C. for an awards ceremony.

“I congratulate these honorees that are leaders in school facilities, wellness and environmental education practices,” said U.S. Secretary of Education John B. King Jr. “Their common-sense approach to investing more in education – rather than in utility bills – improves health and attendance while exciting students about hands-on, real world learning.”

Previously, Green Ribbon honors received by BCPS include Driftwood Middle School in 2013. Also, the BCPS district itself was the District Sustainability Award winner in 2014.
