Gopal Kanda, a businessman and politician with a controversial past, has won the assembly elections in Haryana. He owns the Casino Big Daddy, which is operated through his company Golden Globe Hotels Pvt Ltd (GGHPL). The casino is located on the River Mandovi in Goa and hosts Spartan Poker’s poker room Spartan LIVE. Kanda’s victory makes him the first casino owner in India to win an election.
Kanda, previously affiliated with Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) leader Ajay Chautala, gained public attention when he won the Sirsa seat in 2009 as an Independent. He later established his own political party, Haryana Lokhit Party, which was unsuccessful in the 2014 elections.
Kanda launched MDLR Airlines in 2005, which went bankrupt. His company, GGHPL, has continued to grow and now includes several hotels and malls.
Kanda’s involvement in Goa’s casino sector began in 2011 when he acquired the offshore Casino Rio from the Leela Group of Hotels. However, due to licensing issues, he was unable to operate it at that time. GGHPL, which owns the Big Daddy, faced challenges with license renewal fees and penalties owed to the government. After a court case, the company settled all outstanding amounts last year. The Big Daddy is now the second ship operated by GGHPL on the River Mandovi.
In the recent election in Haryana, Kanda successfully won from the Sirsa assembly constituency. Following the hung verdict, Kanda offered his unconditional support to the BJP, which had secured 40 seats and required six more legislators to form a government.
The disgraced politician facing multiple criminal cases, including serious charges such as abetment to suicide, criminal conspiracy, and income tax evasion, may face difficulty in gaining support to enter the government. Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad stated that the BJP will not be accepting Kanda’s support.

The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, South Florida recently completed a $1.5 Billion expansion project, which includes new amenities such as bars, restaurants, and additional gaming areas. One notable addition is a 36-storey tall guitar-shaped tower, standing 450-feet tall, that adds to the property’s rock-n-roll theme.
The hotel hosted a grand opening last Thursday, welcoming guests with a fireworks celebration and notable attendees such as Johnny Depp, Morgan Freeman, Evander Holyfield, Joe Perry, and Khloe Kardashian.
Jim Allen, the CEO of Hard Rock International, described the project as an adult-integrated resort. He expressed excitement that the facility was completed on time and within budget.
The Guitar Hotel offers 638 rooms and suites, with prices ranging from $189 to $989 per night. The most expensive room, the Platinum King Suite, spans 1,100 square feet. The building required over 10 million man-hours and utilized nearly 13,000 tons of steel in its construction.
The property is known for hosting live tournament stops such as the World Poker Tour (WPT). During construction, the hotel relocated its poker room to the convention center space. The new expansions include a poker room similar to the one found at the hotel’s sister property in Tampa.
