Mayor Peter Bober recently gave his farewell speech at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.
He compared being mayor to winning a gold ticket to see Willie Wonka’s chocolate factory. “Being mayor is the best job in the world,” he told the audience which was made up of community and business leaders. “I love Hollywood.”
Bober described his efforts to promote recycling in the City, and how happy he is to see those distinctive blue bins peppered along Hollywood streets. He conveyed satisfaction about the efforts being made to revitalize the Downtown area and 441 corridor.
He stressed the importance of selecting a strong leader in the next mayor for Hollywood. “Is the person you vote for a talker or a doer?,” he asked the audience. He reflected on the time known as the “Great Recession” as an especially challenging time to be mayor, and said there were some hard decisions that had to be made.
He is leaving office in November but plans to continue working hard until then and intends to remain active in Hollywood affairs.
After his speech, Bober received a standing ovation from the audience and a Key to Hollywood in the form of a guitar from the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.
