The Chaminade-Madonna High School boys’ basketball team is doing very well early in the season.
Head Coach Andre Torres said the team is playing a well-balanced game and should have a successful season. “Our defense has to step up. We are playing against some good competition,” said Torres.
Chaminade-Madonna has defeated McArthur, Wellington, Park Vista, Florida Christian, Calusa Prep and Grandview Prep.
Top players include Nikita Orap, a shooting guard who recently signed with Nova Southeastern University. He is from Russia.
Another top player is Leandro Allende. He is a guard who averages 17 points and seven rebounds a game. Allende is from Puerto Rico and is a member of the Puerto Rico National Basketball Team. And he is a success in the classroom. A junior, he has a 4.4 GPA and may receive college basketball opportunities from Harvard, Princeton, George Mason University and the University of Richmond.
Josh Sanchez, a senior guard averaging 20 points a game is receiving interest from division II basketball programs.
Benjy Dumornay, a senior, averaging ten points a game is receiving interest from Barry University and Eckerd College.
The season is young and the team intends to perform well during the regular season with hopes for the playoffs.
