The Broward County Public School system will be open this fall, but likely very different than in the past.
During a public address, Broward Schools Superintendent Robert Runcie said that when the 2020-2021 academic year begins, students will be taking courses in what is known as a blended environment — where some of the academic work will take place in a classroom and some will take place online.
“Our primary goal is educating students but this coming school year will not look like last year. The new normal will impact all students,” Runcie said in his address.
Runcie said that the COVID-19 crisis has created a disruption and that district educators are looking for new ways to educate students. There will be a strong emphasis on addressing students who need to catch up on learning, and encouraging positive mental health and wellness.
A survey was sent to families with students in Broward Public Schools asking how the remote learning experience, used when Broward County Public Schools moved completely online earlier this year, could be improved on.
Many students said they do not receive help with their school work from an adult and have struggled to understand and complete assignments. Some have struggled to stay motivated to do schoolwork.
