Art Exhibition Featuring Hollywood’s Own “Captain the Green Sea Turtle” to Benefit Sea Turtle Education & MEEC Research Center

The ArtsPark at Young Circle Gallery is set to open a unique environmental exhibition titled “Captain is Hollywood” featuring artist Maria Isabel Lazo in partnership with The Marine Environmental Education Center (MEEC) at the Carpenter House in Hollywood.

The exhibit opens January 23rd and will be on display until March 17th and will feature a series of original acrylic and oil paintings of marine, mangrove and tropical artwork by the artist. An
artist’s reception is planned for Thursday, February 21st from 6:00 to 9:30 p.m. in the Gallery and will feature a grouping of artistically designed recycled lobster trap art on display.

During the exhibit, conservation “talks” are also planned and a portion of the proceeds from the sale of all the artwork will benefit MEEC. The ArtsPark at Young Circle Gallery is located
at 1 N Young Circle in Hollywood, admission is free.

MEEC is a partnership between Broward County Parks and Recreation and Nova Southeastern University. MEEC staff interact with visitors year-round educating them on our fragile ecosystem and introducing them to “forever” resident “Captain” the green sea turtle.

Captain calls MEEC home as she was injured and is unable to be returned to the open ocean. Captain is the inspiration for artist Maria Isabel Lazo exhibition.
