CCTV Technology is Helping Prevent and Solve Crime in Hollywood

The Hollywood Police Department is pleased with the Closed Circuit TV (CCTV) camera program which has been in effect for the past few years. Since they were first installed in about 2015, crime has decreased dramatically in the beach area. There are have been far fewer vehicle burglaries on the beach.

An officer in the police department’s Fusion Center can see about 30 locations because of the CCTV camera. This is like having 30 officers walking around the area. If the officer sees something suspicious, he or she can dispatch an officer to the location and the situation is handled.

The CCTV camera has been very successful in the beach area and the downtown area. Now a new phase of the program is about to begin on Federal Highway. Later another phase will begin on 441.

License plate readers have also been very successful. They have been placed throughout the city and have resulted in the solving of many major crimes.  They can also be placed on police vehicles. Police officers can track vehicles that have been involved in major crimes through the license plate readers.
