The Chaminade Madonna football team is looking good early in the season. The defending state champion has some top players, some of whom have committed to playing college football next season.
Coach Dameon Jones is looking forward to the season. “We are a young team and we have some work to do,” he said.
This year’s team has some talent. Claude Larkins, a defensive end, has committed to play at Minnesota. Benjamin Onwuzo, a cornerback, will also play for Minnesota. Elijah Canion, a receiver, will play for Auburn. Willie Moise, a defensive tackle, will play for Miami. Thaddius Franklin will play for Miami. Joseph Habinowski will play for Ohio University.
“I think we will have a good season,” Larkins said. “To be a good football player you have to work hard and have confidence in yourself. It is important to do well academically. I am looking forward to playing for Minnesota. It will be good to play in the Big Ten.”
Canion is also looking forward to the season. “I love playing football,” Canion said. “To be a good player you have to work hard. I think we will have a good season.”
And then it will be on to Auburn. “When I visited Auburn I was impressed with their program. It will be exciting to go on to the next level,” Canion said.
Chaminade will have some strong opponents with long traditions of success on the football field. They compete against McArthur, Hallandale, Carol City, Pahokee, Vero Beach, and Miami Central.
