Chaminade-Madonna Lions headed for state semifinal

As the high school football post-season kicks off, things are looking up for the Chaminade-Madonna Lions.

Shaun Shivers led Chaminade-Madonna to a 42-0 victory over Cardinal Newman to win the Class 3A regional semifinal. Shivers, who has accepted a football scholarship to Auburn, rushed for 199 yards on 10 carries. He scored three touchdowns in the first half on runs of 52 yards, 60 yards and 63 yards.

It was the team’s first playoff win since 2009. They took an 8-3 record into their matchup with Oxbridge Academy, where their winning streak continued as they rallied to a 30-13 win.

The Lions next face the 11-0 Melbourne Central Catholic Hustlers in the state semifinal at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 25 at Hustler Stadium.
