Admission waived for hollywood residents at driftwood community pool; community centers reopen

Driftwood Pool is open tomorrow (Friday, Sept. 15) from 1-7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, it’s back to the regular schedule and it will be open to the public from 1-5 pm.

The City will be waiving swim admission fees for all Hollywood Residents through Sunday. Please bring proof of residency, valid ID or utility bill. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

People who are tired of being cooped up in their homes can visit City of Hollywood Community Centers and Facilities which have power and many have cold AC. The doors are open for you to come in, get out of the heat and enjoy a cool drink.

Here’s a list of centers that are currently open:

Boulevard Heights Community Center

The 10,195 square foot community center has a large multi-purpose room, 3 meetings rooms, reception area and a warming kitchen. Other amenities include an amphitheater, skate park, playground, and plenty of parking. This center is adjacent to the Hollywood West Athletic complex and concession stand. The center houses several Senior Wellness programs in partnership with Memorial Hospital.

David Park Community Center

This 6719 square foot community center is located just ½ mile west of I-95 at 33rd Court & Hollywood Boulevard. The center offers indoor and outdoor activities for adults and children including Zumba, summer camp, dance, karate and a YMCA Special Needs Aftercare program.  Outdoor amenities include open basketball/paddleball courts and a playground with shade structure and artificial turf.

Fred Lippman Multi-Purpose Center

This adult/senior center is located adjacent to the Downtown arts & entertainment district. Activities include special interest clubs, arts and crafts programs, educational classes and is home of the Elder Grant Program.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center

This 19,128 square foot multi-purpose center, located in northeast Hollywood offers youth & teen basketball leagues, clinics, senior programming and a fitness room.

Oak Lake Community Center

The 1402 square foot Oak Lake Center has a reception area that is ideal for classes, meetings and small private parties or baby showers.

Driftwood Community Pool

The Driftwood Community Pool was constructed and opened its doors to community on March 1, 2004. The pool, also known as a Myrtha Teaching Pool, was designed with the sole purpose to promote water safety and provide residents with a quality outdoor recreation facility.
