A group of community leaders and residents came together at Washington Park to celebrate the South Broward Juneteenth.
“This is a celebration of the end of slavery,” said Tifanny Burks a leader of the event.
Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, is an American holiday that commemorates the June 19, 1865 announcement of the abolition of slavery in Texas. The name is a blend of June and nineteenth. It is observed in local celebrations.
The event included bounce houses, musical entertainment, and food trucks. Those who came enjoyed the opportunity to spend time with friends.
