Community Enhancement Collaboration (CEC) plans annual holiday events; seeks volunteers

The Community Enhancement Collaboration, Inc. (CEC) is planning to hold three holiday events to celebrate and feast with the South Florida community at the Washington Park Community Center at 5199 Pembroke Road in Hollywood.

On Tuesday November 18th, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., there will be the 15th Annual Washington Park Thanksgiving Feast. “We will serve over 1,000 people including the sick and the shut-ins,” said Nadine McCrea founder and president of the Community Enhancement Collaboration, Inc.

On Saturday, November 22, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., there will be the Second Annual Hollywood Turkey Distribution. “We will give away over 20,000 pounds of food including fresh fruit and produce,” said McCrea.

And the 16th Annual Volunteers and Partners Toy Distribution and Holiday Decoration is set for Saturday, December 20. “We will transform the Washington Park Gymnasium into a winter wonderland with toys and decorations for the children,” said McCrea.

“We hope to feed the community and we want to help those in need. We want to improve the quality of life for many families who are struggling to get food, job training, education and affordable housing,” said McCrea.

The CEC is working to establish relationships with leaders from the City of Hollywood, churches and the community to plan upcoming distribution events. In 2013, the CEC helped the community by serving 9,626 people from the Client Choice Food Pantry. It helped 268 people find full time and part time jobs. About 20,000 people participated in its events during the past year.

The CEC is looking for more volunteers, partners, vendors, and people willing to provide in-kind services and businesses to help in the community effort. They are specifically  looking for an air conditioned storage space and a commercial truck with a lift gate.

The CEC hopes to distribute 30,000 to 50,000 pounds of food during the holiday season to needy individuals and families and to raise $5,000 for each event to cover the operating costs.

The CEC appreciates sponsors such Feeding South Florida, EZCorp Foundation, the City of Hollywood, the Washington Park Homeowners Association and Molina Healthcare.
