With the recent opening of Flowers and Art de la Caraibe, Inc. in Downtown Hollywood, proprietor Sabrina Merceron combines her cultural heritage and family background with stunning flower arrangements for any occasion.
Merceron, who opened her unique shop Dec. 15 at 1872 Polk St., was born in Haiti and grew up in Hollywood. Her Caribbean influence is apparent in the artwork and gifts offered at Flowers and Art that start at $5 and include paintings, carved pieces, earrings, jewelry boxes and more.
“My family was in the art business,” Merceron said. “They sold art, and I followed in their footsteps.”
Before opening Flowers and Art de la Caraibe, Merceron was in the real estate business and owned four title companies.
With her new venture, Merceron returns to her roots and provides a service that is needed in the area.
Flowers and Art, a member of the Teleflora network, has a large inventory of fresh flowers for all occasions, from weddings, birthdays and anniversaries to get-well, sympathy and funeral arrangements, with free delivery in Hollywood.
With a florist who hails from Paris, Flowers and Art specializes in both modern and traditional flower arrangements, high-style arrangements, plants, European dish gardens, silk flower arrangements and dried flower arrangements.
“We do beautiful arrangements with plants, too,” Merceron said.
Prices start at $15 for a flute vase and three roses. Customers can select an arrangement from a photo album or opt for a custom design. Flowers and Art also offers gift baskets and gourmet fruit baskets with a vast array of items to choose from.
Merceron’s reasons for opening her new business in the historic downtown arts, music and entertainment district were both practical–the local pedestrian traffic and numerous special events that draw visitors there–and personal.
“I have lived in Hollywood all my life,” she said. “I love it here.”
