VCA Hollywood Animal Hospital (VCAHAH) is teaming up with Broward Meals on Wheels (BMOW) for the fifth year to host a community food drive for pets of homebound seniors in Broward county.
Any canned, dry or dehydrated cat or dog food will be accepted during the drive and will be matched by the Hollywood Animal Hospital. The need for donations of cat food is in particular demand among BMOW clients.
The Broward Meals on Wheels (BMOW) for Companion Animal program provides pet food once a month to local seniors who need assistance taking care of their in-home pets. Pet food is provided through the generosity of community donations.
The program started when volunteers began to notice clients sharing their meals with their pets. Seniors on a restricted budget can have a difficult time meeting their own needs and often the needs of their companion animals are neglected. With only the support of volunteers and donation this organization provides delivery of food for these loyal pets once a month to clients of BMOW.
The food drives depend on partnership and grassroots fundraising efforts of local businesses and the community.
If you’re able to donate, stop by the VCA Hollywood Animal Hospital (VCAHAH) at 2864 Hollywood Blvd., anytime between 7:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. The drive starts on November 12th, and ends December 17th.
“This initiative grew out of a desire to give back to our community. Our partnership with Broward Meals on Wheels for Pets allows us to give back in a very tangible way, its a great source of pride for all of our staff and doctors. This year, relationships with our neighboring veterinarians and businesses affirm our community bond and allow us to have a larger reach to help this caring organization,” said Linda Ream, Communications Coordinator, VCAHAH.
“Each month, Broward Meals on Wheels for Pets uses over 800 pounds of pet food alone for the southern portion of Broward County. The VCA HAH food collection goes a long way to help feed the furry family members of the seniors in need here in Broward,” said Bobbi Arnold, Co-chair of BMOW for pets
