SPARK Version 4.0
Sponsored by Hollywood Chamber of Commerce
The next team was tasked with producing the fourth edition of SPARK Hollywood, a Shark Tank-style competition dedicated to growing and supporting entrepreneurship in our city. Moreover, they were directed to update the event, and to make it new and different than the previous three iterations. They began by renaming it The SPARK Experience, and it was set to take place on Thursday, May 28 at the Circ Hotel at Young Circle. As of this writing it is on hold.
The SPARK Experience for 2020 has taken on a new, comprehensive approach to entrepreneurial growth, consisting of two main components: SPARK Sessions and the premier SPARK Pitch Competition.
SPARK Sessions are intended to ignite entrepreneurship through educational programs, as well as introduce resources to the business community. The sessions will feature a variety of experts on topics critical to the success of launching a new product or idea. Topics for the sessions include getting funded, branding and marketing, and perfecting your pitch.
SPARK’s “quick-pitch” competition will showcase entrepreneurs and new ventures competing for cash and in-kind prizes. As of this writing in early April, Spark Hollywood is still accepting online applications for the pitch competition.
Over the past three years, the SPARK Hollywood program has offered nearly 40 entrepreneurs the opportunity to pitch their ventures to community judges, and awarded more than $20,000 in cash and in-kind prizes to spark their businesses.
“SPARK Hollywood is a great opportunity for our local business professionals to compete for prizes; showcase their ideas, inventions and products during the business expo; and network with potential investors and business experts,” says Raelin Storey, City of Hollywood Director of Communications, Marketing and Economic Development.
