Gov. DeSantis issues executive order providing relief from foreclosures and evictions for 45 days

The COVID-19 pandemic is a significant public health crisis and many people are suffering or will suffer from this terrible illness. But another significant problem has emerged from this outbreak, massive unemployment.

In an effort to contain the spread of coronavirus, many businesses and industries have been shut down. The restaurant industry has been especially hard hit. In Florida about 227,000 people filed for unemployment last week and many more are expected to do in coming weeks. Many people are having difficulty filing for unemployment.

To help people stay in their homes, Governor Ron DeSantis issued an executive order providing targeted, temporary relief from certain mortgage foreclosures and evictions for 45 days, without relieving an individual’s obligation to make mortgage payments and rent payments.
