Greater Hollywood Chamber of Commerce honors teachers of the year

The kids. This is what has motivated Jeffery Scudder to become one of the most successful teachers in Hollywood. He teaches Physics, Chemistry, Biology and other science courses at Olsen Middle School. He was named teacher of the year for his school and received an award at the Greater Hollywood Chamber of Commerce 2018 Teacher of the Year Awards Luncheon at the Orangebrook Golf & Country Club.

“For me it is the kids. They keep me motivated. I love working with them and helping them become successful,” said Scudder. He has been teaching for 24 years.


Jennifer Valliere, who teaches at Stirling Elementary School also has a passion for helping children. “I love helping children. My motivation is helping children succeed,” she said.

Nancy Roman who teaches eighth grade U.S. History at Beachside Montessori Village said she likes to continue to learn. “I enjoy learning with my students and try to bring history to life for my students. It’s important to make learning fun,” said Roman. Dolly Bembanaste, who teaches at McArthur High School said, “I love my job and I really love helping students. I think this is important for success in education,” she said.

Among the group honored at the luncheon was Kelly Bagiotti, who teaches at Hollywood Central Elementary School. “In my class I treat the children like family. I believe this is important to success in the classroom,” she said.

They were invited to the front of the room where they received an award and handshakes from various community leaders.

Juliet Roulhac, chair of the MSD Victims Fund’s Outreach Committee was the keynote speaker. She spoke on the importance of teachers in the community and society. “We expect you to love our children, parent our children and to protect our children,” she said. Roulhac said it is critical that students be kept safe from violence. Scott Singer, association administrator at Joe DiMaggio’s Children’s Hospital said that good teachers show care and compassion. “We are honored to be a part of this event. Teachers make sacrifices to help children. They are shaping the future generations,” he said.

The teachers of the year came with their principals. They enjoyed a pleasant lunch and the opportunity to socialize with fellow educators.
