52,000-Square-Foot 3D Metal Printing and Manufacturing Plant Breaks Ground

Sintavia celebrates ground breaking; to bring 135 jobs to Hollywood

Hollywood leaders and executives and personnel of Sintavia, a leading metal additive manufacturing company,  got together to celebrate the ground breaking for the firm’s new 52,000 square foot manufacturing plant in Hollywood. Construction is underway and the work should be completed by the end of 2018. The company will employ 135 skilled workers who will earn salaries averaging about $70,000.

The company uses 3D printing or what is known as additive manufacturing technology to make parts from metal powder. It involves a laser passing multiple times over a metal powder bed, melting the powder layer by layer until a final part is produced. It will receive an order specifying what is needed then make the part. It can produce metal shapes for critical parts that cannot be cast or forged via traditional methods. The process is faster than traditional methods and better from an environmental standpoint because it produces no waste and occurs in a clean room manufacturing facility. Many of the components that will be produced at the new plant will be for the aerospace, power generation, and oil and gas industries.

Sintavia CEO Brian Neff spoke at the ground breaking ceremony. “We are in the fourth industrial revolution. The first industrial revolution harnessed the power of steam to build the first production machines.  The second used electricity to manufacture in mass quantities.  The third used electronics to automate mass production.  The fourth industrial revolution is data-driven, and is often expressed as a digital revolution.  For critical production, this revolution means the growth of additive manufacturing,” he stated.

Mayor Josh Levy said he was pleased to welcome Sintavia to Hollywood. “This will mean more jobs and it will contribute to our tax base,” he said. “It is very good to have a company construct a new facility in Hollywood.”

Commissioner Kevin Biederman is also glad to see this project. “This will be a nice addition to the business community in Hollywood,” he agreed.
