Hollywood Academy of Arts & Science Students Will Debut “Through the Eyes of Young Artists” at Special April 5 ArtsPark Gallery Event

fullsizeoutput 9114It won’t be just a regular art opening when the Hollywood Academy of Arts & Science (HAAS) holds its “Through the Eyes of Young Artists”  exhibition reception at the Young Circle ArtsPark Gallery on Thursday April 5 from 6 to 7:30 pm.   It will be more of a production experience rather than a standard art exhibition.

Under the guidance of art teacher Hilary Fine, this is the school art department’s 12th Annual Art Exhibition at a professional gallery.  It’ll be filled with special guests too, like Mayor Josh Levy and Vice Mayor Deborah Case of Hollywood, dignitaries from the Art & Culture Center/Hollywood, Young at Art Museum, Broward Cultural Division – Art in Education Committee, Broward Schools and CSUSA and other educational divisions.  They’re also hoping to have the Holocaust Memorial of Miami Beach and FIU Museum represented.

But mostly it’s special because it was put together by students of HAAS at a highly professional level.   Hollywood Academy of Arts & Science is an elementary and middle school which specializes in an “enhanced traditional curriculum with a focus on the arts and science.”  Students named the exhibition “Through the Eyes of Young Artists” because they read the Holocaust book “Entombed” by Bernard Mayer and from there did a special photo and video shoot as they “saw” human rights.  The photos and the video they produced is for human rights based on the Holocaust and survivor Fred Mulbauer’s experience.  Archival photos were from the Singer/Friedman family albums and current photos and videos were taken at the Holocaust Memorial, Miami Beach.  Students titled their video “Never Again”, in respect of the Jewish mantra regarding the Holocaust, but tragically their ‘Never Again” also became the motto for the recent high school shooting in Parkland.  So, the HAAS students dedicated their film to these students and to worldwide human rights.  This film will be shown at the ArtsPark Exhibition Reception.

This has been an impressive year for HAAS’s students.   They were winners both nationally and in all top categories for the entire State of Florida with the EPA’s Radon Awareness Poster, and it is expected that representatives of the Florida Department of Health and the American Lung Association will be at the event presenting students with crystal awards for art and writing.  Young At Art Museum will also present this year’s winners from the Art In The Capitol Awards and the Scholastic Awards as well.

Students will perform at this event, with art masters including visual artist Daniel Pontet who will be painting with his feet!   Documentary producer Cathleen Dean, and Grammy musicians Federico Britos and Thomas McWilliams will also be there.  Also performing will be guest musicians Jeffrey Lee, Diego Fuica, Jorge Alfano, Fernando Moraes, and guest singer Brenton Williams.
