Local Hollywood artist Alissa Alfonso just completed her second photo shoot at the Humane Society of Broward County with photo assistant Manon Wiese.

The installation titled “Sea of Love” transformed the HSBC photo studio into an underwater backdrop for shelter animals that are looking for their forever homes. Alissa’s work consists of recycled materials turned into art.

The underwater backdrop was intriguing to both the dogs and cats that were photographed and is evident in the photos. In June, she created a vintage photo booth and the animals lounged on a vintage settee and were surrounded by giant paper flowers. “The photos are beautiful and have a whimsy and charming appeal. They also help to showcase the pet’s personalities,” said Cherie Wachter, VP of Marketing at the HSBC.

To see the photos you can visit www.humanebroward.com, but of course to see the pet’s true personalities and to see if they would be the perfect match for your family, please visit the shelter in person.  The Humane Society of Broward County is open seven days a week for adoption and is located at 2070 Griffin Road, a block west of I-95.

For more information call 954-989-3977. The shelter is a private, non-profit organization supported by donations and is not affiliated with any local or national organization with a similar name.

About Alissa: Deeply inspired by design and the love of recycled materials, Alissa is committed to expressing how color and form exist in nature. All of her collages are constructed with hand dyed fabrics that are cut, designed and sewn on canvas. Each work contains hundreds of pieces of fabric. Attention to detail and color is her way of capturing viewers and bringing them in closer to discover that what they are viewing is fabric and not paint. It is this type of study of individual elements that trigger the kinds of thoughts that sweep through our minds and take us by surprise. Her artwork is meant to inspire these moments.

In addition to creating custom art, her love for design and detail flow into her work as a stylist for events and photo shoots. From conceptualizing the vision, to executing every detail of the final plan, everything is custom and hand made. Styled events can include: choosing outfits, working with photographers, creating props and backdrops and even making custom couture kids clothes! She enjoys every part of this creative process.
