Across the country, people are celebrating visionary civil rights pioneer Dr. Martin Luther King.
As part of Hollywood’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (MLK) Celebration, Landau Eugene Murphy will perform at ArtsPark at Young Circle. Murphy will perform on January 17 at 9:00 p.m., the opening act will take place at 8:00 p.m. The America’s Got Talent winner will perform with a Salute to Sinatra with his Big Band.
Saturday, January 17, a Fun Day and Basketball Tournament at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center will take place. The basketball tournament is competitive and many people participate. Last year, there were 46 teams and between 500 and 600 school aged children from all over South Florida who participated. The games are five on five and medals are awarded. The tournament starts at 8:30 a.m. and runs until about 4:00 p.m. The MLK Fun will start at around 2:00 p.m. and will include face painting, carnival style games and music and fun for everyone.
Sunday, January 18, there will also be an MLK Memorial Tribute at Attucks Middle School. This service will begin at 8:00 a.m. and will celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through music and song.
