Hollywood Encourages Residents to Prepare for Hurricane Season

Hollywood residents should prepare for hurricanes

Tropical storms are beginning to appear in the Atlantic and eventually some will become hurricanes and may affect Hollywood. City leaders want all residents to be well prepared and begin making storm preparations.

Gather your hurricane supplies now, if you have not already done so. You should have five to seven days’ worth of supplies, such as non-perishable food and water, for each person in your household. Residents should refrain from cutting trees or doing additional landscaping projects until after this storm passes. Solid/commingled and recyclable materials should be properly secured in a safe, sheltered location. Make plans to secure any outdoor items that could be blown around in the storm. Bring them indoors or otherwise secure them as the storm approaches.

The Department of Public Utilities has deployed several auxiliary stormwater pumps to complement the 10 permanent stormwater pump stations.Crews will be removing debris blocking stormwater grates or inlets. Public Utilities staff will be closely monitoring all pump stations before, during and after the storm.

Please keep in mind, garbage, recycling and commingled (brush and hard junk) collections may be suspended in advance of the storm depending upon the forecast and conditions. During a storm, residents are asked to secure grey garbage carts and blue recycling carts on their property, along with commingled materials.

Residents are encouraged to visit the City of Hollywood’s website at www.hollywoodfl.org/emergency for hurricane preparation tips and information regarding hurricane supplies.

Before, during and after a storm important information will be posted on the City’s website at www.hollywoodfl.org, shared via CodeRED Alerts, through NotifyMe “News and Announcements” email and text messages and on the City’s social media sites, Facebook and Twitter.
