Hollywood has heART

Gallery 2014, aptly located at 2014 Harrison Street, is not your typical art ensemble. Photographer Elizabeth Sanjuan and philanthropist Ken Brown opened the gallery in 2012 as Fundación Sanjuan, “a non-profit corporation and public charity established for the support of the arts, art education and related charitable causes around the world.”

The twosome immediately went about fostering an environment for a stable of up-and-coming artists to share their works and the result is a SoHo styled space occupied by artists of extremely talented and of various styles and mediums.

The other evening I attended the opening of one of their artists, Mercedes Bravo. Mercedes was born in Cuba, moved to West Palm Beach and inched closer to Hollywood by recently resettling in Hallandale.

Mercedes was introduced to Sanjuan and Brown by her cousin, renowned artist, Reynier Llanes. And while she has exhibited extensively in Cuba (including Galeria Tele Pinar and Pinar del Rio Provincial Museum, to name but two), the artist had never exhibited in the United States.

In Mercedes own words, “I immediately felt a sense of comfort with Gallery 2014—it had an international vibe and the art was extraordinary. I feel that Hollywood is a place of artistic opportunity and I was honored when I was accepted to be a member.”

You simply must respect the vision of Gallery 2014, one that is inclusive of myriad mediums and one that collaborates with galleries and museums across the globe to “arrange exchange exhibitions and access to similarly price-sensible original art from new and emerging global artists.”

A big bravissimo to Gallery 2014 from a pundit of artistic profundity…
