Hollywood Hills celebrates homecoming

Hollywood Hills High School celebrated its homecoming during the final game of the season. The Spartans played against Coral Springs.

The Spartans did not win the game, but the players gained valuable field experience and the fans, cheerleaders, and band members had some fun.

On Friday afternoon, the students enjoyed a rousing pep rally, where they could yell and scream as loud as they wanted.

The Hollywood Hills Marching band performed with members of the Driftwood Middle School Band. This gave the middle school students a chance to experience performing at a high school football game. Some may choose to join the Marching Spartans.

Hollywood Hills Band Director Angela Maxion is pleased with the performance of the band. She is in her first year as the director and believes the program will improve. “We have performed well this season and I think we will get better,” said Maxion. I want to continue developing this band.”

The band received good ratings at a recent marching band assessment. Now, the Marching Spartans are getting ready to perform in the upcoming Hollywood Candy Cane Parade.

Summer Prescott plays the trombone. “Being in the band is a fun experience. It is a good place to learn discipline. It is a good place to meet people,” said Prescott.

Frank Leonardi also plays the trombone. “I love to play music. I have made many good friends in the band. It has been a fun experience,” said Leonardi.

Both bands gave a strong and enthusiastic performance during the game. Paul Morton, the director of the Driftwood band, said his students loved performing with the Hollywood Hills Band.

The Hollywood Hills cheerleaders enjoyed the chance to perform stunts and cheers during the game.

The seniors love being on the team. One of the cheerleaders, Mirlenis Fleitas, said she enjoys cheering and performing the flying routine.

Leneshia Luc said she enjoys cheering and especially likes performing stunts.

Members of the homecoming court were recognized during halftime. Most of the members are student leaders at Hollywood Hills.

The students recognized were:
