Hollywood Hills High School in the process of starting an Honors Academy. This would be outside of the school’s military academy but would feature high school academics and be designed to prepare students for college.
There are about 50 students who have demonstrated a strong interest in the honors academy, according to Major Reginald Smith, the magnet coordinator at Hollywood Hills.
“We have students who want to be part of a strong college prep program but they don’t want to be part of a military academy,” said Smith. “We want to teach the students about successful leadership. We want to offer them a strong academic program.”
The students would learn about what it takes to be an effective leader and some of the successful leadership styles. They would take advanced placement courses and duel enrollment courses. Smith believes the honors program will benefit many Hollywood Hills High School students.
