Hollywood Hills High School’s band program returned successful from a recent musical assessment. The Wind Ensemble earned all superior ratings, which is the highest possible performance grade and an accomplishment that few bands achieve. Ratings are based on performance skill, sight reading, technical preparation, and musical effect.
Michael Gabriel, the Hollywood Hills band director was pleased with the ensemble’s performance.
“We have worked very hard to be the best band we can be. I am proud of their accomplishments,” he said.
Gabriel plans to further develop the band program and hopes to orchestrate future travel so the band may perform before wider audiences.
The ensemble shows great enthusiasm for the future and a deep friendship between bandmates.
“We have been able to build bonds among the band members. We have worked very hard at rehearsals. I have loved being in the band,” said Savannah Griffin, the trumpet section leader.
Griffin plans to attend Illinois State University and hopes to play trumpet in the university’s band.
Lindsay Wyckoff, the tuba section leader, has also enjoyed her band experience.
“We have worked hard and devoted a lot of time toward practice. We performed well, and it was a good feeling to get straight superior ratings,” she said.
