Hollywood Jaycees Organize Annual Back-to-School Shopping Spree for Over 100 Local Students on Aug. 3

Hollywood jaycees organize annual back-to-school shopping spree for over 100 local students on aug. 3

Every year for the past 20 years the Hollywood Jaycees have taken less fortunate children from the Greater Hollywood area on a Back to School Shopping spree.

They purchase $100 gift cards prior to the event. On the day of the event they arrive at the store 6:45 AM and before it opens and provide the children continental breakfast, assign a child (or 2) to a volunteer and make sure they have their form complete.

The Jaycees have raised enough donations from the community to take at least 100 children back to school shopping, however they do have a waiting list.

Each child will be given a $100 gift card, and along with a chaperone will be able to purchase much needed school supplies or clothing. The shopping spree will be held Saturday, August 3rd, 2019 at the Kmart (3800 Oakwood Blvd.) located in Oakwood Plaza.

“The goal of the Greater Hollywood Jaycees community fundraising projects was to raise enough funds to help secure school supplies and clothing for local students who would not otherwise have the needed resources for the 2019-2020 school year” said Shekar Reddy, the Presenting Sponsor for the past nine years.

This event takes place before the store opens at 8 a.m. so volunteers and students are asked to be there no later than 6:45 a.m. and they start at 7 a.m. sharp.

The Jaycees have five kids on the waiting list at the time of this post. To sponsor a child or volunteer on the day of the event visit www.hollywoodfljaycees.com.

If you would like to make a donation this can be done via PayPal, or mail your tax-deductible check to the Hollywood Jaycees Foundation, 2930 Hollywood Blvd. Hollywood, Florida 33020.

The Greater Hollywood Junior Chamber of Commerce, also known as the “Jaycees,” is an organization of individuals, ages 18 through 40, whose focus is on charitable involvement, social activities, developing leadership skills, and creating business opportunities.
