Greater Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Graduates Leadership Hollywood Class 43

The Greater Hollywood Chamber of Commerce celebrated the graduation of Leadership Hollywood Class 43 at the Hollywood Beach Marriott on Friday, June 21.

Each year, the Leadership Hollywood program brings together a host of community leaders for experience in team building and collaborative service projects.

This year, the first team worked on a cleanup project in downtown Hollywood. They worked with members of the Lions Club and received support from the City of Hollywood for the cleanup.

The second team worked with the Exceptional Theater Company on an awareness campaign to promote the work of the organization, with a luncheon held at the Circ Hotel.

The third group organized the Hollywood 2 Ocean (H2O) event on Hollywood Beach. They created a World Ocean Day event to promote the importance of caring for the ocean and to encourage people to avoid using plastic straws and utensils since they are major ocean pollutants.

The fourth group organized a triathlon for children at the Greater Hollywood YMCA.

The fifth group coordinated the third SPARK Hollywood, a competition for small businesses to present their new companies and vie for financial prizes and other benefits.

During the year, participants in Leadership Hollywood visited major healthcare, media, public safety, environment, education, and government institutions in and around the City and County.

Assistant Police Chief Manny Marino of the Hollywood Police Department participated in Leadership Hollywood this year, and was a member of the YMCA event team.  “It was great to see how excited the kids were during the triathlon,” he said. “We were promoting health and fitness and they didn’t even realize that they were learning!”

Meaghan Walsh of Margaritaville Hollywood Resort was a part of the Hollywood 2 Ocean team. “It was great to meet so many leaders,”  said Walsh. “We will all continue working to make Hollywood a better community.”
