For April’s National Volunteer Month, more than 50 South Florida AT&T employees have been awarded the prestigious United States President’s Volunteer Service Award, or PVSA, for their commitment to volunteerism. Local Hollywood resident Daphne Dilbert is among those who received the award, in recognition of the work she does right here in our own community.
Daphne is being honored with the Silver PVSA for donating more 250 hours of her time in 2017. Through her involvement with the AT&T Pioneers, an employee resource group, Daphne volunteers her time with the Antioch Community Development Corp., helping feed and clothe those in need; mentoring young girls through Black Girls CODE and STEM programs supported through the AT&T Aspire program; and participating in numerous community projects, such as building a playground and contributing to annual backpack and blood drives.
Daphne also volunteers as a board member for Liberia Economic Social (LES), which provides affordable housing. She also partners with LES to sponsor the City of Hollywood’s annual African-American Poetry Slam contest.
“I believe whole-heartedly in the saying, ‘Go the extra mile, it’s never crowded,” said Daphne. “The joy I feel when helping others is immeasurable. There’s no greater mark to leave in life than making a difference in another’s life. I’m just grateful I work for a company that not only supports my volunteer efforts but also encourages me to do even more.”
As a PVSA winner, Daphne will receive a congratulatory letter from the president of the United States, a personalized PVSA certificate and an official PVSA pin, medallion or coin.
Nationwide, AT&T employees volunteered more than 1.78 million hours of time in community outreach activities during 2017.
There are 3 levels of the PVSA award:
Gold for 500 or more hours volunteered in a 12-month period;
Silver for 250-499 hours; and
Bronze for 100-249 volunteer hours.
