The Chaminade-Madonna football team is enjoying a very successful season. The Lions defeated Westminister Christian 30 to 0 to win their first district 8-3A championship since 2009. The team has a 5-1 record and looks to do well in the state playoffs.

Coach Dameon Jones is very proud of his team and believes the Lions will continue to win. “This team has overcome some adversity this season. It feels good to bring back a championship to the school,” he said. “Now we need to continue playing well and stay healthy.”

Lions Quarterback Henry Colombi is also happy with the team’s performance. “We have some good talent on the team. We just have to take it one game at a time,” he said.

Colombi is among a group of Chaminade-Madonna players who have signed college football scholarships or received offers to play at the next level. Colombi has agreed to play for Utah State next fall. Chris Whittaker, a defensive end will play at the University of Central Florida, Josh Ali, a receiver will play for the University of Kentucky and Cody Watson, a linebacker, will play for Fresno State.

Coach Jones said there are many players on his team who are being looked at by top college football programs. Some of the players are underclassmen but are already considered top prospects by well-known college football programs.

In other sports at Chaminade-Madonna, girl’s golf team member Valeria Pacheco-Claudio won a district competition and is preparing to compete in the regional championship.

The girls’ volleyball team is also doing very well. The Lions have an 11-4 record and are getting ready for the district tournament. Top players include Angelique Sheerin, a blocker, Danielle Franzosa, a libero and Carly Price, a setter.
