Football is a popular activity among Chaminade-Madonna students. The Lions have a strong football program and a tradition of success on the gridiron.
People don’t attend the games just for the football, students contribute to their school spirit in a variety of ways at the events. There are the Lions cheerleaders, the CM Lionesses Dance Team and the Drumline. These programs, which hold competitions of their own when they’re not pumping up crowds, do a lot to set the mood of these games. The cheerleading team has 26 members who promote school spirit at the Lions football games. “We have an excellent cheerleading program,” said Regina Moody, cheerleading coach at Chaminade-Madonna. “To do well in cheerleading, you need to have a good attitude. We hope our attitude will take us to the state cheerleading competition this year.”
The Drumline also creates its share of school spirit at the games. They perform rousing songs to pump up competitors and spectators. Michael Vona, a leader of the drumline sees potential in this years squad. “We are having a rebirth. We are playing new songs and we want everyone to work up to their potential,” he said.
The CM Lionesses are another source of Chaminade-Madonna spirit. When they aren’t dazzling students with meticulously choreographed routines, they’re competing among other schools’ dance teams. “We love being a part of this team, it’s a great way to make new friends. We are looking forward to upcoming competitions,” said Savanna Short, a leader of the team.
The Chaminade-Madonna football team lost their most recent game to Cardinal Gibbons, but that isn’t expected to slow them down. The Lions have a strong team and are shaping up for a good season.
