Tomas Sanchez is the Interim Police Chief for the Hollywood Police Department

Assistant Chief of Police Tomas Sanchez has been named to the position of Interim Police Chief effective at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 15, 2015. The announcement was made by City Manager Dr. Wazir Ishmael. Sanchez will assume responsibility for the oversight of the Hollywood Police Department.

Chief Frank Fernandez will conclude his service in the role of Chief of Police at that time. He will be leaving for a position in the Coral Gables Police Department.

Assistant Chief Sanchez has a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice from Florida International University and over 30 years of law enforcement experience serving with integrity and professionalism in the City of Hollywood Police Department since 1988.  During his years with the Department, Assistant Chief Sanchez has served in nearly every division and was the first Hispanic officer to be promoted through the ranks of Sergeant, Lieutenant and Major to achieve the rank of Assistant Chief. 

He distinguished himself as the Commander of the South Broward Drug Enforcement Unit to become one of the nominees for national recognition by the Office of National Drug Control Policy.  He also revamped the juvenile unit bringing the national Gang Resistance Education and Training program to Hollywood.  Assistant Chief Sanchez has been a respected member of the of the Department’s command staff for 13 years.
