Hollywood city leaders recently welcomed the Union Institute & University to Hollywood with a ribbon-cutting event.

Union, which is based in Cincinnati and has campuses around the nation, moved from its North Miami location to the fourth floor of 4601 Sheridan St. in Hollywood. Union offers bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees, but its focus is more on adults who are seeking higher education later in life.

Hollywood leaders welcome Union Institute & University to Hollywood.

Some classes will take place in Hollywood, but many of the classes and programs are offered online. The University offers graduate programs in organizational leadership, humanities, health and wellness and healthcare leadership. It offers undergraduate programs in criminal justice, business administration, education and other areas.

“We did some research and found that Hollywood offered a good opportunity for our university,” said Roger Sublett, the president of Union. “The Hollywood community really welcomed us and rolled out the red carpet for us. We are glad to be here.”

Union does not have some of the traditional offerings that a university has, such as big-time sports, fraternities and sororities and campuses with many buildings. Instead, it directs its focus elsewhere. “We

are spending more money on people and building a digital library,” Sublett said.

The ribbon-cutting offered a pleasant social event. Mayor Josh Levy said, “We are glad to have this higher-learning institution in our City. This will contribute to the success of our residents and our City,” he said.

Anne Hotte, CEO and executive director of the Greater Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, said she is pleased Union is coming to Hollywood. “They are incredible for the community,” she said.
