United Way to unveil Broward's opiate action plan Aug. 17

United Way of Broward County Commission on Substance Abuse’s (UWBCCSA) Community Response Team will host a free panel discussion to unveil Broward County’s Opiate Action Plan on Aug. 17th from 2 to 4 p.m. The Opiate Action Plan will provide community-wide strategies to reduce the consequences of opiate use, including naloxone expansion and intervention.

This free event is open to the public; with community members encouraged to attend to learn and provide feedback. The discussion takes place in the auditorium-admin building at 780 SW 24th Street, Ft. Lauderdale 33315.

Epidemiologist Jim Hall will speak about rates of opiate related overdoses as well as dangerous counterfeit pills which are being documented throughout the country. The panel will include community leaders from Broward Addiction Recovery Center, Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO), Fort Lauderdale Police Department (FLPD), United Way of Broward County Commission on Substance Abuse, and South Florida Wellness Network.

David Scharf, Executive Director of Community Programs at Broward Sheriff’s Office, will moderate the discussion.
