The final countdown is on to December 15, the last day that Americans can sign up for a health care insurance plan under the Affordable Health Care Act  (aka Obamacare) for 2018.  For people who enroll in a plan by the December 15 deadline, coverage will begin on January 1, 2018.

Here in Broward county, the  Broward Regional Health Planning Council (BRHPC) is making a push to ensure that people know how easy it is to sign up and have partnered with Hispanic Unity of Florida and the Urban League of Broward County.  Broward residents can receive assistance from certified Navigators in selecting and enrolling in one of the various health insurance plan options available to them.

Sign up online, by phone, or in person. Call 954-561-9681 for an appointment or visit http://www.brhpc.org/programs/navigator

“Although we’re enrolling more people than last year, there are still tens of thousands without insurance,” said Michael DeLucca, President and CEO of BRHPC. “We encourage people to contact us now since there are only a few days left to sign up.”

Nearly 500,000 Floridians signed up for Affordable Health Care Act plans in the first three weeks of enrollment.

  • Health Coverage is less expensive than ever before.  Most people can find plans with monthly premiums less than $75 and many can find plans with $0 monthly premiums.
  • Plans and prices change every year, so check out the options to see how affordable this year’s coverage is.
  • If you don’t get covered by December 15th, you may have to pay a fine of $695 or 2.5% of your income. (If Congress repeals the mandate, it will not go into effect until 2019, so individuals could owe a penalty for not having coverage in 2018).
