Lights, Cameras, Action!

I
amble towards AT3, my mission a twofer, as I plan to interview both author/artist
Maria Palomino and Leo Anato Barragan (filmmaker and co-owner of Atelier 3).

As
I begin to swing south on 19th, I find the block (from Hollywood Boulevard to Harrison
Street) cordoned off—trucks, trailers and tents resembling a film production.

On
a mission, and behaving as if belong, I step into a bustling AT3 with seeming
impunity.

I
quickly spot Leo and pull him aside.

Leo
explains that a commercial is being shot in his coffee house/hipster-haunt by
In & Out Productions of Miami. Yep, right here in Downtown Hollywood.

Before
you know it I’m chatting up Mari Tato (Executive Producer) and soon after,
Antonio Martinez (Senior Producer).

Antonio
is kind enough to pause, take a seat and engage me in a quick tête-à-tête.

I
ask; “Why Hollywood?”

Antonio
doesn’t hesitate: “Hollywood is physically interesting—the buildings, the charm,
the vibe so unique and extraordinary.”

He
goes on to say, “Downtown Hollywood is the untapped set of South
Florida-whether film, television or commercial spots…”

And
me, I’m grinning, thinking of Joseph Young and his original vision…
