Local Ice Queen Brings Happiness and Help to Hollywood

Nationwide, Kona Ice has donated more than $40 million to community-based organizations since the launch in June 2007.

A decade later in June of 2017, local woman Gretchen Litzenberg opened Kona Ice of Hollywood Beach and has donated more than $1,434. Their philanthropic commitment to the communities it serves is an integral part of the mobile franchise.

Kona Ice is set up so that the franchisees always give back a portion of their sales to different local causes.  Since starting her business, Gretchen has been cruising the streets bringing smiles to kids’ faces helping different organizations raise money.  She participated in two Christmas in July events where she gave out free Konas to the kids at the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital and their families.

“The giveback component was a huge determining factor of why we chose Kona Ice,” said Litzenberg. “It’s an awesome feeling to play such a large role in changing the lives of children and families in our community.”

Beyond fundraisers, popular spots for the shaved ice truck include stops throughout Hollywood Beach at different events. Litzenberg’s truck also maintains regular weekday and weekend routes.

“Our Kona Ice business has brought us closer to the community in a way we didn’t think possible,” she said. “The smile our truck brings to people’s faces is priceless. It’s such a joy to be able to bring such positives vibes to Hollywood Beach.”

Gretchen will continue to donate to local school groups, teams and community organizations through large-scale events and private bookings.
