Local shelters partner to 'Beat the Heat' spaying or neutering 383 felines early February

In early February the Humane Society of Broward County and Broward County Animal Care and Adoptions partnered to host their fourth annual “Beat the Heat Spay/Neuter Week” for felines.

Once again the event was a huge success with a total of 288 cats being spayed or neutered at the Humane Society of Broward County on their mobile unit and 95 through partner veterinarians through BCAC for a grand total of 383 felines.  By holding the event early in the year, it will prevent the births of thousands of unwanted kittens in the Spring and Summer months.

While the shelters are independent and not affiliated with one another, they have come together to promote this important message.

Pet overpopulation is something we can control, but it will take help from everyone to make a difference.  If you have a pet that needs to be spayed or neutered, please contact the Humane Society of Broward County 954-463-SPAY (7729) or spayneuter@hsbroward.com prices start at $15.00 for feral cats.

Broward County Animal Care & Adoption offers their SPOT program for qualifying individuals, where the cost for pet sterilization is $10.00.  For details please visit www.broward.org/animal.
