On World Oceans Day weekend starting Saturday, June 9, thousands are expected to March in DC and at simultaneous events across the U.S and around the world.
On the same day in Hollywood, Surfrider Foundation Broward County Chapter and Free Our Seas and Beyond will host the March For The Ocean Celebration at Charnow Park on Hollywood Beach. The intention is to create an atmosphere of positive community activism celebrating our oceans with music, art, and environmental non-profit organizations.
The free community event takes place June 9 from 9 am -1 pm. Festivities will feature positive reggae vibes from DJ Lance-O of Kulcha Shok Muzik, an art contest for best ocean-themed costumes, posters, and beach clean-up buckets, marine debris art on display created by Free Our Seas and Beyond, and other ocean advocates.
A marching band will be leading parade participants at 10 am north to the Marine Environmental Education Center (MEEC). At the MEEC halfway point, paraders can enjoy an Icee, refill water bottles, visit Captain the sea turtle, and cool off under a sprinkler before heading back to Charnow Park.

“We are so excited that Surfrider, Free Our Seas and Beyond, Marine Environmental Education Center, and the City of Hollywood are hosting the March for the Ocean Celebration,” said Catherine Uden, Chair of Surfrider Broward Chapter. “Mayor Josh Levy and the City of Hollywood have been so supportive of our efforts to protect and enjoy our beautiful beach.” This will be a fun day for the whole family while raising awareness for solutions to protect our coastline from offshore oil drilling to plastic pollution.
